About Pepe Fanjul

Jose Fanjul, also referred to as Pepe Fanjul or J. Pepe Fanjul, is Vice Chairman, Chief Operating Officer, and President of Fanjul Corp. and Florida Crystals Corporation, two Fanjul-owned companies principally engaged in the production of sugar.  In Palm Beach County, Florida, the company farms 187,000 acres of land, where it also owns two sugar mills, a sugar refinery, a distribution center and the largest biomass power plant in the North America, which produces renewable energy that powers the sugar operations and tens of thousands of homes.

With its American Sugar Refining subsidiary, the world’s largest sugar refining company, the group produces sugar products in the United States, Canada, Mexico, England and Portugal that are marketed through the Domino®, C&H®, Redpath®, Florida Crystals® and Tate & Lyle® brands.

Fanjul Corp.’s group of companies includes Central Romana Corporation, Ltd., the largest privately held company in the Dominican Republic, of which Pepe Fanjul serves as Vice Chairman and President of the Executive Committee.  Central Romana’s endeavors include sugar production on 240,000 acres of land; real estate; cattle; and tourism, including the 7,000-acre world-renowned Casa de Campo resort.  Central Romana’s activities expand to Belgium, where it produces furfural, an industrial chemical made from recycled agricultural materials.  That business is serviced by its offices throughout Western Europe and in Asia.

Pepe Fanjul’s commitment to philanthropy led him to serve as Chairman of New Hope Charities, an organization dedicated to helping foster sustainable communities in South Florida and the Dominican Republic.  Pepe Fanjul is also a past Chairman of the Board of Trustees of St. Thomas University and former Florida Chairman and Member of the Board of Councillors (corr.) of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta.

The Fanjul family’s expertise in sugar cane farming and production dates back more than 150 years. Pepe Fanjul joined the family venture in 1969, was a founder of Flo-Sun, Inc. (presently Fanjul Corp.), and has been an integral part of its growth during the subsequent years.  The Fanjul companies domestic and international operations combined have an annual production capacity of 7 million tons of refined sugar.

Pepe Fanjul holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Villanova University and a master’s degree in Business Administration from New York University.
